July 14 Webinar: Renewable Natural Gas – What is It?
Please join us Wednesday, July 14, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. EDT via Zoom as we stream our next community meeting focusing on our progress and exploring Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) technology.
Delivering on a Low Carbon Future
We are committed to supporting the District of Columbia’s efforts to create a low carbon energy future with our Climate Business Plan. Thousands of District residents and businesses depend on us to power their lives, and everyone deserves to live in a low carbon future. We all must do our part to build a cleaner future.

AltaGas President & CEO
The Climate Business Plan builds on our record of achievement and our companies’ collective determination to address climate change.
President, Washington Gas
Washington Gas has grown together with the District of Columbia for more than 170 years as an essential energy provider.
How We’ll Get There – Together
We spent the past year developing a comprehensive plan that will drive down GHG emissions related to natural gas by 50 percent in 2032 and 100 percent by 2050.
Maximize Energy Efficiency
We have already run successful programs to improve efficiency for our customers. We will build on those efforts, continuing to empower customers to use energy more efficiently, and deploying new technologies like super-efficient appliances.
We will invest in a more efficient infrastructure and expand our capability to meet the needs of a growing city. Through programs like PROJECTpipes, Washington Gas continues to modernize our infrastructure. Our investments help us maintain a modern, safe and reliable energy delivery system.
Harness New and Emerging Fuel Sources
We will use our existing infrastructure to deliver gas – and introduce carbon free fuels such as renewable natural gas and hydrogen – to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This includes clean-certified gas and promising renewable fuels like biogas and hydrogen energy. We will leverage new and emerging technologies based on the best science and engineering available.
The Climate Business Plan is good for the environment, for District residents and visitors, and it puts in place a framework for smart growth in the region.
Webinar: Renewable Natural Gas – What is It?
Please join us Wednesday, July 14, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. EDT via Zoom as we stream our next community meeting focusing on our progress and exploring Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) technology. We’ll provide a community update and host a live Q&A session with expert panelists to answer your questions about RNG.
Turning everyday waste into a biofuel, RNG is natural gas derived from organic waste from landfills, food, animals, wastewater, garden and lawn clippings, plant-based material, among other things. As that waste breaks down, it emits methane, a greenhouse gas. RNG technology captures this methane, repurposing it as an energy source.
RNG is an innovative part of the three pillars in our plan that will enable the District to meet its carbon reduction goals of lowering greenhouse gas emissions 50 percent by 2032 and to become carbon neutral by 2050. We focus on modernizing our infrastructure, increasing energy efficiency in our customer’s homes and offices, and introducing carbon neutral fuels like RNG and hydrogen into our energy mix.
We look forward to seeing you on July 14!
